Dive into a one-of-a-kind adventure and uncover the secrets of the Moche culture, one of the most fascinating civilizations of ancient Peru. This private tour will take you on a journey to discover its art, spirituality, and history, with a guided tour of the most iconic temples in the Moche Valley.
Your adventure kicks off at 9:00 a.m. when we pick you up right from your hotel in Trujillo's historic center. From there, we'll head to the Huacas del Sol y de la Luna archaeological complex, just 15 minutes from the city.
Our first stop is at the Paseo de la Fertilidad, where you can check out replicas of the famous Moche erotic huacos, symbols of the power of life and nature. Here, you'll learn about the significance of fertility in this ancient culture and how it ties in with agricultural and religious cycles.
You'll also get to try the traditional Chicha de Jora, an ancient drink made from fermented corn, which was considered the drink of the gods back in the Moche era.
Next, we'll check out the Cerro Blanco artisanal workshop, run by the famous artist Jesús Enco from Trujillo, who's dedicated his life to bringing back the original techniques of Moche ceramics. You'll get to see up close how the pieces are made, from shaping to decorating with traditional iconography. If you want, you can grab a piece as a souvenir.
Next up is the Huaca de la Luna Site Museum, a modern spot that's got authentic pieces from archaeological digs. Here, you'll see ceramics, textiles, tools, and ritual objects that'll help you understand the daily life, religion, and political power of the ancient Moche people.
Next, we'll head into the Ceremonial Temple of the Huaca de la Luna. With your guide, you'll explore its courtyards, squares, and polychrome murals that still have their original colors after over 1,500 years. Each level of the temple shows a different side of the religious power of the Moche priests, who used to make offerings and hold ceremonies for the god Ai Apaec, the 'Slaughtering God'.
In front of it, you can check out the awesome Huaca del Sol, which is the biggest adobe structure in pre-Hispanic America. You can't visit the inside, but you'll still get a great panoramic view.
After the visit, we'll head back to Trujillo and drop you off at your hotel. Throughout the tour, you'll have private transport, a professional guide, and tickets included, ensuring an authentic, comfortable, and enriching cultural experience.
This tour is made just for you, who love history, art, and ancient civilizations. Get ready for a trip back in time that'll connect you with the greatness of the Moche people and the cultural roots of northern Peru.
