Climb Mateo Mountain in the Cordillera Blanca and Huascaran National Park on a guided day tour from Huaraz. Take in the views of the turquoise lakes and the surrounding mountains.
Depart from Huaraz at 3:00 AM and drive for 3 hours to Punta Olimpica. Start hiking up a rocky trail to the moraine area. After about an hour, reach the glacier at 5000 meters above sea level. Try on the climbing equipment and start climbing the glacier.
After 2 hours of ice climbing, reach the summit of Mateo Mountain. Take in the views of the surrounding mountains and turquoise lakes. After an hour of taking in the views, start the descent back to Punta Olimpica.
Stop at Carhuaz to try traditional ice cream or have some snacks. Arrive back in Huaraz at around 2:00 PM.
