Description

"Discover Toro Muerto's captivating petroglyphs: symbols of animals, dancing men, and tales etched in stone, a journey through time and imagination."
Day 01 - Majes Valley - Toro Muerto Petroglyphs - Dinosaur Footprints - Vineyard Visit
Our adventure begins at 5:00 am when we pick you up from your hotel in the city center, with a brief stop for breakfast at Alto de Pedregal.

We'll then continue our journey towards the entrance of the beautiful Majes Valley, traversed by the river of the same name, enjoying the natural landscape of fertile valleys where the best grapes for wine and pisco are cultivated.

By 8:30 am, we'll explore the Toro Muerto Petroglyphs, the world's largest petroglyph reserve, with enormous stones carved by ancient inhabitants in the middle of the desert. We'll also visit the traditional town of Corire and the petrified dinosaur footprints preserved in Querulpa Park. Here, we can admire life-size replicas of these prehistoric animals, crafted with great detail and realism.

Additionally, we'll visit a small museum with fossilized dinosaur bones.

Upon reaching the summit, we'll finally observe dinosaur footprints that inhabited Arequipa millions of years ago.

Next, we'll head to Chancharay Beach for a refreshing dip in the fertile spring waters. You'll have approximately 1 hour here to enjoy the pool and the scenery.

Following that, we'll savor a delicious lunch at a restaurant in Aplao. There will be various options, but it's highly recommended to try dishes made with fresh river shrimp from Majes, a gastronomic delight and a flagship dish of Arequipa (not available during the closed season; January to March).

Our journey continues with a visit to the Quiskay Hanging Bridge.

We'll then proceed a bit further to get a close-up view of a geological formation known as the Christ's Profile.

Before returning to Arequipa at 5:00 pm, we'll visit one of the wineries in the Majes Valley, where our winemaker will be waiting to share the secrets of pisco and wine production, followed by a tasting of their products.

Approx. 8:00 pm - Arrival in Arequipa.
