Description
Explore Cusco on a half day tour of ancient temples, majestic stone fortresses, and colonial landmarks. Immerse yourself in its vibrant history, culture, and breathtaking scenery.
The tour begins at Plaza de Armas, Cusco’s central square, where you can admire colonial buildings, arcades, and the Cathedral of Cusco. This cathedral, built on an Inca palace foundation, showcases intricate wooden carvings, gilded altars, and paintings blending European and Indigenous artistic traditions.
Next, we visit Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun), once the most sacred Inca site dedicated to Inti, the Sun God. Its stone walls were originally covered in gold, demonstrating the Inca’s advanced engineering and artistic skills. After the Spanish conquest, the site became the Convent of Santo Domingo, creating a striking blend of Inca and colonial architecture.
From there, the tour continues to Sacsayhuamán, a monumental fortress complex perched above Cusco. Its massive stones, some over 100 tons, are perfectly fitted together, reflecting the Inca’s architectural mastery. The site offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and surrounding valleys.
We then visit Q’enqo, a limestone site featuring altars, channels, and passageways used for rituals connected to fertility and agriculture, offering insight into Inca religious practices.
The tour continues to Puca Pucara (“Red Fortress”), a military checkpoint and administrative center strategically located on the route to the Sacred Valley, highlighting the Inca’s defensive planning.
Finally, explore Tambomachay, a ceremonial site dedicated to water with functioning aqueducts, canals, and fountains. This site showcases the Incas’ hydraulic engineering and their reverence for water as a sacred resource.
