Description
A nontraditional tour will show you all the archaeological sites closest to Cusco. Visit Sacsayhuman, Qenko, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay, and Pisaq, which are all parts of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
After picking you up from your hotel, your tour will start in Sacsayhuaman. This is an emblematic building of the Inca Empire (just a few minutes from the center of the city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and was built by the Inca Pachacutec in the 15th Century. It is a vast fortress built from huge stones, and how they were transported and worked is still a mystery. It has been calculated that what you will see on this tour is only twenty percent of the original structure, because when the Spanish arrived they used its stones for new buildings such as the cathedral.
Continuing with your tour you will visit Qenko, which is an underground chamber where it is assumed mummification processes were conducted. On the same route, you will visit Puca Pucara, a large fortress whose name means red fortress. It contains a complex system of channels which carry water through a set of terraces until the flow is divided and falls over two small cascades. After finishing this final site, you will continue traveling for an average of 45 minutes towards the heart of the Sacred Valley, where you will have lunch.
After lunch, you will reach the village of Pisac, a vast Inca ruin set high up on the mountain top and strategically located as a place of passage for most travelers from Cusco to Machu Picchu. While here, you will have the chance to visit the crafts market, which offers its visitors the opportunity to both buy or view many handmade products made by local craftsmen or neighboring communities.
