Description

Discover the beautiful exotic birds of the Peruvian Amazon with this 6-day tour of the parrot and macaw clay licks of Tambopata.
Day 1
From the Puerto Maldonado airport, we'll make our way to the town's river port to board a boat that will take us to our accommodation in the Tambopata jungle.

Once settled in, we'll go out to visit the Cocococha Lagoon, where we'll spend the afternoon exploring its surroundings and trying to spot different species of avian fauna. We'll see fisher birds and exotic birds such as hoatzins, and then we'll go to an observation tower 42 meters high - the perfect place to spot monkeys and toucans!

We'll conclude this first day by returning to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 2
At dawn, we'll visit the parrot clay lick of La Cachuela, and then return to the lodge for breakfast. At around 10:30 am we'll go on a hiking route around the ecolodge, where we'll take the opportunity to see native birds like tinamous, trogons and trumpet birds.

After lunch, we'll continue searching for exotic birds on the banks of the Tambopata River. We'll see silver herons, eagles, hacks and macaws. At nightfall, we'll continue with the activity as we'll have the opportunity to see nocturnal species such as owls and hawks. Finally, we'll return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3
After breakfast we'll gather our belongings and head to another lodge located in Tambopata, to have the opportunity to get to know other environments of the reserve.

You'll then have the rest of the morning free to settle in or do an activity proposed by the guide, and in the afternoon we'll go on a hike for about two hours in the La Torre area to observe birds that live in the interior of the forest. Around 7:30 pm, we'll return to the lodge to have dinner and go out to look for nocturnal birds, before retiring for the night.

Day 4
We'll leave the lodge early in the morning to go by boat to El Chuncho, one of the largest colpas, or clay licks, in Tambopata. The crossing will take about four hours, so upon arrival, we'll camp there to spend the day watching the native birds until dinner time.

Day 5
We'll get up at the break of dawn, at 5 am to visit a macaw clay lick in El Chuncho. You'll be surprised by the striking colors of these exotic birds!

After the obligatory photo with the macaws, we'll return to the lodge for lunch and you'll have the rest of the afternoon free.

Day 6
After breakfast at the hotel, we'll take you to the Puerto Maldonado airport leaving you with plenty of time to catch your flight.
