Description

Learn how to cook Poland’s traditional soup, żurek. Listen to the funniest and most surprising Polish traditions, then enjoy a table full of homemade food prepared by local food lovers.
Flexible dates: If you don’t see a time that works for you, feel free to send me a message directly through GetYourGuide. I’m very often able to arrange an alternative date or time — many guests have already done so successfully.
---------------------
Your adventure begins with a warm welcome and a short introduction to Poland’s most curious and funny traditions — from Easter breakfast rituals to why we sometimes pour water on each other in spring! You’ll learn how food, humor, and hospitality are deeply woven into Polish culture.

Next, we’ll roll up our sleeves and start cooking. You’ll make Żurek — the traditional sour rye soup — completely from scratch, using real fermented rye starter, smoked sausage, and aromatic herbs. I’ll guide you step by step, sharing secrets passed down through generations and explaining how fermentation gives this soup its unique tangy flavor.

Then it’s time to enjoy a true homemade feast: your freshly cooked żurek and a spread of traditional Polish foods like sausages, cheeses, butter, and pickled vegetables — all locally sourced or homemade.

At the end of the workshop, we’ll take a few photos and you’ll receive a small keepsake to remember your time in Warsaw. You’ll leave not only full and happy but also with a new understanding of Polish culture!

The activity takes place in my flat in a green, post-war district of Wola in Warsaw, about 25 minutes from the city center by public transport. It’s easy to reach by tram, bus, metro, or taxi, and detailed directions will be provided after booking. All tools, ingredients, and food are provided — just bring your curiosity and an appetite!
---------------------
Żurek soup requires preparation in advance, including sourcing fresh ingredients. Because of this, please book at least 72 hours (3 full days) in advance so we can make your experience truly special.
