Description

Discover the history and cultural heritage of Jewish people in Wroclaw, former Breslau. Explore the Four Denominations District and visit the White Stork Synagogue.
It is a little known fact that the Jewish community in Wroclaw is one of the oldest in today’s Poland, dating back to the 12th century, with over 30,000 Jews residing in the city right before the beginning of World War II. Join this tour to discover the hidden history of Jews in Wroclaw.

During the 2-hour tour you will explore the Jewish heritage sites in the District of Four Denominations. This includes the prominent 19th century White Stork Synagogue. Inside, you can learn about the 800 years long history of the local Jewish community, as well as about their deployment to the camps during WWII and the anti-minority politics during the communist era. Hidden from view in the same courtyard is also an older and more traditional Small Synagogue (Sznul).

Follow your Private Guide along the narrow streets of the Four Denomination District to learn more about the religious diversity and cultural tolerance of Wroclaw. In this quiet neighbourhood you will find a variety of places of worship, including a Catholic church, Evangelical church, Orthodox cathedral and the Jewish synagogue. Continue along the Old Town Promenade to see the memorial to the New Synagogue torched on Kristallnacht, which was the second largest synagogue in Germany, back when Wroclaw was known as Breslau. The walking tour will end at the Polish Theater, which operated as a Jewish Theater for a few years after the war.

Choose the 4-hour option to enrich your Jewish experience tour with a visit to the Old Jewish Cemetery, now serving as the Museum of Cemetery Art. For your comfort, we include public transport tickets. At this historical graveyard, you will learn even more about the local Jewish community and marel at the ruins of unique tombs of many famous Jewish doctors, scientists, social activists and artists. It is a mysterious place full of historical and cultural heritage.
