Zakopane and Tatra Mountains

There are several reasons why Zakopane is such an attractive destination for both Polish people and foreigners. It is known for its rich Goral heritage and traditional architecture, as well as its beautiful mountain trails. It is situated in the very heart of the mountains, after all. It’s a paradise for skiers and climbers with its numerous valleys, peaks, and ponds. To us, this charming town is where the best of culture and nature meet. Are you curious to know why Franz Kafka, Joseph Conrad, Marie Curie, and Vladimir Lenin held this place so dear? The splendid resort attracts more and more visitors every year and it is mostly because of:

The highest Polish mountains (and the highest part of the Carpathian Mountain range) – hang over Zakopane up to 2,500 meters above sea level. They are extremely attractive for skiers and climbers.
A lovely town with numerous examples of old timber architecture built in a local style. For over 100 years, Zakopane has attracted many writers, poets, musicians, and composers.
Krupówki – is probably one of the most popular boulevards in Poland.
Gubałówka with its best panoramic viewpoints of the Tatra Mountains and Zakopane. We take the funicular up/down.

Book our exciting Zakopane Tour

Our Zakopane Tour takes approximately 8-9 hours. It usually starts in the morning – you will be picked up from your hotel around 9 am. Zakopane is situated about 100 kilometers south of Kraków, near the border with Slovakia. The journey lasts for about 1.5 – 2 hours each way. A friendly driver who speaks English will take care of you and assist you in any case. On your way to Zakopane, you will have a unique opportunity to see the Chochołów village famous for its amazing wooden architecture. Historic buildings, 100-year-old cottages – trust us, this is really impressive. When you finally reach Zakopane, sightseeing starts with the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Krzeptówki. The complex was funded by the highlanders as a votive offering for saving the Polish pope – John Paul II after the attack on May 13th, 1981. The sanctuary is a great example of contemporary highlander architecture and tradition combined with modernity. We will also see Wielka Krokiew – the biggest ski jumping hill in the country. When we finally reach the 100-year-old Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (also called Jaszczurówka), you will have a chance to see one of the most beautiful and inspiring examples of Poland’s wooden architecture.

The next step is Gubałówka hill – we will take the cable car to get there and admire the beautiful views of the Tatra Mountains. Once we are back down, you will have time to explore the local market and buy some regional products (traditional Oscypek cheese, honey, jams) and souvenirs (e.g. wooden handicrafts). You will also have some free time for lunch and to enjoy the Krupówki boulevard.
