Description
Discover old traditions in the Monchique mountains with its wonderful views and cork forest, and visit the former capital of the Algarve, Silves.
You will explore the most traditional region of the Algarve, away from the hustle and bustle of the touristic coastline. In the mountains of Monchique, old traditions are still part of the daily life and the flora is extremely biodiverse. Therefor, the mountain is also as the 'Garden of the Algarve'. Throughout the day you will enjoy magnificent views, get a glimpse of the traditional life and taste a variety of local produce.
One of the main attractions of the mountain is the cork forest. The cork trees are a special specimen and you will have a guided visit to learn more about the tree and the cork production.
The highest point of the Algarve, called Pico da Foía, is obviously a must. Here, you will have free time to snap some photos and you will also pass through the main village of the mountain.
Absolute highlights of your day are the tasting of local products, such as honey and the spirit 'medronho'. You will visit a distillery where this strong spirit is still produced in the ancient ways. You will also enjoy a typical lunch in a local family restaurant.
In the afternoon, you will drive to the former capital Silves, where you will have free time to explore the Moorish fortress or to just take a stroll through the cobbled streets of the old centre.

- Entrance fees in Silves: you will have free time to explore the part of the town that is of most interest to you. You might prefer a fresh orange juice in the shade over exploring the Moorish castle, or a stroll through the streets over a visit to the cathedral. For reference:
- Castle entrance fee is €2,80.
- Cathedral entry fee is €1,50, visiting hours may vary and we cannot guarantee the cathedral to be open for visitors when we are there.
When should I book?
To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.
Cancellations
This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
