What to Expect
Whitewater rafting in Fort William on the River Garry is an exhilarating experience, with fantastic rapids with names such as Double or Quits, Surfs Up, Hey Diddle Diddle, and the Tunnel of Love. Big bouncy waves, drops, stoppers and plenty of surfing are the order of the day.
Other rivers can be used for whitewater rafting near Fort William, but rain is required to get them into condition. They can rise and fall extremely quickly, and unfortunately, the river levels can’t be guaranteed. This makes the River Garry the best rafting river in the Highlands. The dam on the River Garry releases water from April to October, normally on a Thursday, with some Saturdays available too.
Whitewater rafting on the River Garry is a classic grade 3 and 4 white water experience.
If you are unable to make one of the dam release dates, then you may want to consider white water funyaking as a great alternative, which needs less water.
