Description
Experience the highlights of the Peak District on a day trip from Manchester. Enjoy three guided walks, explore the legends of Lud's Church, "The Matterhorn of Cheshire" and the ruins of Erwood Hall.
Escape the city for a day of discovery in the Peak District National Park. This guided hiking tour is designed for those who want to experience the landscape on foot rather than through a bus window. Over the course of the day, we’ll tackle three distinct 90-minute walks, showcasing the incredible geological and historical variety of the UK's first National Park.
Stop 1: Shutlingsloe – The Matterhorn of Cheshire
We start the day with an invigorating ascent of Shutlingsloe. Famous for its iconic pointed summit, this peak offers some of the most dramatic views in the region. From the top, you’ll enjoy a 360-degree panorama stretching across the Cheshire Plain all the way to the mountains of North Wales on a clear day.
Stop 2: Historic Buxton
After our first hike, we head into the elegant spa town of Buxton. Known for its Georgian architecture and famous spring water, you’ll have plenty of time to grab lunch at a local cafe, explore the Pavilion Gardens, or see the magnificent Buxton Crescent.
Stop 3: Lud’s Church & The Roaches
Next, we step into a landscape of legends. We’ll wander through Lud’s Church—a deep, 18-meter stone cleft hidden within the forest. Draped in moss and steeped in Arthurian myth, it feels like another world. We’ll also take in the gritstone edges of the Roaches for stunning views across the Staffordshire moors.
Stop 4: Errwood Reservoir & Hall
We finish our adventure with a peaceful circular walk around Errwood Reservoir. We’ll explore the evocative ruins of Errwood Hall, a 19th-century stately home reclaimed by nature. It’s a tranquil end to an active day before we head back to Manchester in our comfortable, zero-emission electric vehicle.
