Description
Explore the Highlands: Hermitage Forest, Dunkeld, the Blair Athol Distillery, and the Queen's View. Visit Killin, the Wallace Monument, and the Kelpies. Scottish nature and history in a single day!
This journey through the heart of Scotland starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. from 190 High Street, right in the center of Edinburgh. After an approximately 1.5-hour drive, we will enter the stunning natural setting of The Hermitage Forest. During a 45-minute stop, we will have the opportunity to stroll along trails lined with majestic pine trees and admire the spectacular Black Linn Waterfall, a true hidden gem of Scotland's natural beauty.
Just ten minutes away, our next stop will be Dunkeld. In this charming town on the banks of the River Tay, we will have 30 minutes to soak up its quaint atmosphere and visit its cathedral, famous for its unique blend of medieval architecture and the natural surroundings. After another 20-minute drive, we will arrive at the historic Blair Athol Distillery. For one hour, we will immerse ourselves in the culture of Scottish whisky, learning about its traditions and, for those who wish to do so, enjoying a tasting to appreciate the character of one of the country's oldest distilleries.
Continuing north for 25 minutes, we will reach the iconic Queen's View. At this Queen's Viewpoint, we will enjoy 20 minutes of contemplation while taking in one of Scotland's most spectacular panoramas, with unparalleled views of Loch Tummel and the surrounding mountains. The journey continues for about 30 more minutes until we reach Killin, where we will make an extended stop of 1 hour and 15 minutes. This time is set aside to admire the Falls of Dochart and enjoy lunch in an unparalleled setting. The cozy local pubs and cafes provide the perfect setting to sample Scottish specialties while watching the water flow by.
After refueling, we will head for Stirling, a journey of one hour and fifteen minutes. Our first stop will be the towering William Wallace Monument, where we will spend an hour learning about the national hero's exploits. Please note that, due to Scotland's changeable weather, if visibility is poor, this stop may be replaced by a short photo opportunity and a visit to the city center of Stirling. Next, we will make two short, strategic stops of 15 minutes each: the first at the historic Stirling Bridge, the site of the legendary 1297 victory over the English troops, and the second in front of the majestic Stirling Castle, where we will be able to take photographs of this key fortress without entering the interior.
Finally, after a 30-minute coach ride, we will visit The Kelpies. For 20 minutes, we will behold these colossal 30-meter-high sculptures that pay tribute to the country's equestrian heritage. We will conclude our day with a final 50-minute journey to arrive in Edinburgh at around 8:00 PM, bringing to a close an unforgettable day dedicated to discovering the essence of the history and nature of the Highlands.
