Rwanda 1 Day Mount Sabyinyo Hiking Adventure

Sabyinyo is the Oldest Volcano in Virunga Ranges and locally known as “old man’s teeth” because of its serrated top resembling the spaced teeth in an old man’s gum line as opposed to perfect summits.
Early Morning at 4:30am, your Driver Guide will Pick you up from your Hotel/Airport in Kigali and transfer you to Volcanoes national Park. The drive takes about 2.5 hours to reach at the park office, you will Pass through the Beauty Landscape Rwanda along the way where you will know why Rwanda Refereed as "The Land of Thousand Hills".


Upon arrival at the park Office, you will Briefed about Hiking by the park Guides. After the briefing you are transferred to the trailhead at the base of Mount Sabyinyo, where the hike begins. The trail starts gently through bamboo forest and dense vegetation, offering chances to sport a variety of birds species. As you ascend, the terrain gradually becomes steeper and more challenging, with muddy paths, exposed ridges, and a series of wooden ladders that help you navigate the rugged slopes.

The hike involves climbing several peaks, each offering increasingly spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes and the Virunga Mountains. The final ascent is the most demanding, requiring careful climbing over steep ladders and narrow ridgelines, but it leads to the rewarding summit at 3,669 meters. At the top, you stand at the unique meeting point of Rwanda, Uganda, and DRC, where you can rest, take photos, Having your Packed Lunch and breathtaking panoramic views.

After the summit experience, you begin your descent, carefully making your way down the same trail. The return journey can be equally challenging due to the steep and sometimes slippery terrain, but it offers another opportunity to enjoy the forest scenery. After approximately 6-8 hours of total hiking, have your packed Lunch and Return back to Kigali for your flight/Hotel.

To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
