Description
Discover the history of the jews of Bucharest. Learn about their occupations, community and their valuable contributions to the city's wellbeing, all on a carefully curated guided tour.
Meet me in the heart of Bucharest, right at the statue of Mihai Viteazul located in the University Square for a 3 hour guided walking tour.
Please wear comfortable shoes, bring a bottle of water, and check the weather forecast in advance so you can dress appropriately. The tour will take place even if it’s lightly raining, but will be canceled in case of heavy rain. You will receive a full refund for the affected booking if the tour is canceled.
During this walking tour we will explore the economic activities of the Jewish community and the role of religious life as a pillar of the community. Together we will further explore what we now call the Jewish Quarter, remnant of the numerous past quarters that used to exist.
We will talk about important landmarks of Bucharest such as Grand Hotel du Boulevard, The Palace of the Marmorosch-Blank Bank, while continuing into the Old City Centre on Lipscani street. There, Hanul cu Tei awaits us to explore its history.
We will then pass through the Latin Passage to arrive to Sfantu Gheorghe Square, with its old tales and stories.
Coming next, three of the four remaining synagogues of Bucharest, all hidden from the unexperienced eye of both tourists and locals.
We end our tour in the Jewish Quarter (Anton Pann Street), where we will explore the mix of Art Déco, wagon-type and Belle Époque buildings, with a touch of surprising bits of history.
