Duration:
03:30 hours
Description
Sail by canoe between mangroves and ancient shell islands. At sunset, watch thousands of birds return to their roost in an unforgettable natural show.
Embark in Toubacouta for a timeless half-day in the heart of the Sine Saloum Delta. From the very first moments, let yourself be carried away by the calm of the canoe, between the bolongs, the mangroves and the wild landscapes of the delta.
After about fifteen minutes of navigation, you will see Diorom Boundaw, a mysterious islet that is now inaccessible, before reaching Diorom Boumack, the famous Shell Island. Walk on a ground made up of huge piles of shells accumulated by humans over the centuries and discover a fascinating place, shaped between the 8th and 13th centuries by the ancient populations of the delta. Amidst the majestic baobabs, immerse yourself in the history of the island, its archaeological remains, and its ancestral burial mounds.
Then board the canoe again to sail to the Reposoir des Oiseaux, a preserved islet in the heart of the mangrove forest. As sunset approaches, the show begins: herons, egrets, and other birds gradually return to their perches for the night. Watch them take flight, hear their calls, and experience the amazing bustle that brings the island to life as the sky turns golden.
Between ancient history, untamed nature, and the magic of the sunset, enjoy one of the most beautiful experiences in Sine Saloum and leave with unforgettable images.
