Description

Explore Bukchon Hanok Village on a guided tour. Learn its rich history, try traditional Korean crafts, and visit a stunning hanok amid a blend of modern buildings and centuries-old homes.
The capital of South Korea is Seoul. Within Seoul, Bukchon has been the centre of Korea since the founding of the Joseon Dynasty in 1392. I was born in Bukchon and went to kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, and high school there. Our school picnics were always at the palace, and we skated on the palace pond in the winter.

Bukchon was the centre of everything until the late 1970s, when Seoul began to expand and become a mega-city. Having lived through all of Korea’s historical upheavals for over 600 years, Bukchon is a place where you can see modern buildings and centuries-old ruins.

I’m a storyteller from Bukchon who is now a filmmaker and teaches film screenwriting at the university. I dreamed of becoming a Bukchon storyteller because I wanted to share with people the secrets that they would never know unless they were born in Bukchon. Right now, I’m running fun historical and architectural tours around the old neighbourhoods of Bukchon, and during the tour, you’ll experience hands-on traditional Korean crafts and visit one of the most beautiful hanoks, where the atmosphere of old Korea still lingers. You’ll explore hidden alleys, hear untold stories of the past, and see how tradition and modernity coexist in this living museum. In the future, I’m also planning to run themed tours around Seoul to share even more of the city’s layered history.
