Discover the scenic southern coast of Sri Lanka on a full-day tour from Colombo. Visit the picturesque beaches, turtle conservation centers, and the Dutch fortress of Galle. Take a boat safari on the Madu River, and learn about the art of mask carving in Ambalangoda.

Begin your day with a visit to the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project. Learn why Sri Lanka is a prime turtle nesting site, why the conservation project is needed, and how the project is operated by local people with the help of international volunteers.

Next, embark on a boat safari along the calm waters of the Madu River in Balapitiya. Cruise along a stretch of 40 km that consists of 64 small islands and various stops that will speak volumes of the area's heritage. With life jackets and health and safety instructions in place, learn about the importance of this water body.

The Madu River is home to the largest remaining mangrove swamp which contains several species of reptiles, fish, and birds. This rich biodiversity has allowed the Madu Ganga to be listed under the International Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.

Continue to Ambalangoda to learn about the art of Sri Lankan mask carving. Visit the Ariyapala Traditional Masks institution, where you can see the masks being carved and learn about the history of this tradition.

Next, head to Meetiyagoda to explore the moonstone mines on a guided tour. Learn about the process of how these moonstones are excavated and mined in Sri Lanka’s largest moonstone mine. Moonstones in Sri Lanka are renowned for their slight blue tinge, as the rarest and finest moonstones are almost transparent with a strong blue shine.

Finally, visit Hikkaduwa Beach, one of the best surfing spots in Sri Lanka. Enjoy some free time to relax on the beach, swim in the clear waters, or try your hand at surfing.
