Description

A self-guided walking tour game through Stockholm's Södermalm area, based on the true story of Malin Matsdotter and the Stockholm witch trials.
Step into the true story of Malin Matsdotter and the horrors of the Stockholm witch trials with this interactive walking tour game.

The Swedish witch trials, commonly referred to as “The Great Noise”, culminated in Stockholm in 1676. A group of children and young maids had managed to create mass hysteria within just a few months, by claiming they had been abducted by local women and taken to meet the devil. Malin Matsdotter was one of many women accused and sacrificed through public executions, but she was the only one in Stockholm to be burned alive.

Do you want to know more about what happened? Come take a walk through Stockholm as it was more than 300 years ago. This audio walking tour game takes you to several historical sites in Södermalm. The narrator of the tour is twelve-year-old Gertrud, who used to live next door to Malin Matsdotter. She is worried that people have forgotten the consequences of spreading false rumors, and she wants to share Malin’s story with you.

This audio tour is self-guided via a GPS-based app downloaded to your smartphone. When you buy the tour you will receive an email with instructions on how to download the app which serves as your guide and narrator. Once you have the app installed, head out to the tour starting point, open the app, put your headphones on and get ready for your Stockholm adventure! You'll listen to the story while you walk, and sounds, illustrations, and game elements are triggered to show up on your mobile screen when you get close to them. The app shows you what the city used to look like and what the lives of the people involved were like.

This walking tour is perfect for those who want to go sightseeing in Stockholm in a fun and independent way, as well as for people of all ages who enjoy historical storytelling. This experience is completely flexible: you can start, pause and end it whenever it suits you.
