Day. 2: Departure from Évian-les-Bains
- Start your day with breakfast at the hotel.
- Visit the town of Évian-les-Bains.
- Meals in Évian-les-Bains not included.
- Departure scheduled at 2:00 p.m. for a visit to the Allinges castles. The ruins of Château-Neuf and Château-Vieux stand face to face at the top of Allinges hill. The Romanesque chapel of Château Neuf 11th century which houses a remarkable fresco in the cul-de-four apse is classified as a Historic Monument. This place of the castles of Allinges served as residence to Saint François de Sales (1567-1622) during his mission of evangelization of this province, between 1594 and 1598, after it was taken back from the Genevan and Bernese Protestants by the Duke of Savoy . It remains a place of pilgrimage.
The Allinges castles site is a must-see site in the Chablais UNESCO Global Geopark. You will discover the medieval history of these two neighboring and rival fortresses. Their walls bear the scars of their war. At your feet, the panorama will tell a much older story, ranging from the molasses sea to the great Alpine glaciers.
