Description
Discover Zanzibar's natural beauty and culture on a full-day tour. Visit Jozani Forest, the Zanzibar Butterfly Center, and Uwamajo Village,
Begin your day with a pickup from your hotel in Stone Town, Paje, Jambiani, or nearby areas. Head to Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, Zanzibar’s only national park and home to the famous Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkey, an endangered species found nowhere else in the world.
Take a guided forest walk through lush tropical vegetation, home to red colobus monkeys, sykes monkeys, and various bird species. Visit the Mangrove Boardwalk, where you’ll walk above the water through a peaceful mangrove swamp and learn about the role mangroves play in protecting the island’s coastline.
Learn from your local guide about the medicinal plants, butterflies, and small wildlife that thrive in the forest ecosystem. The red colobus monkeys are friendly and easy to photograph — no zoom lens needed.
Next, take a short 5-minute drive from Jozani Forest to the Zanzibar Butterfly Centre, a beautiful enclosed tropical garden filled with hundreds of colorful butterflies. Enjoy a guided tour explaining the life cycle of butterflies and how local farmers raise them sustainably.
See different butterfly species up close — from tiny cocoons to fully emerged butterflies. Learn how the project supports local communities and conservation efforts. This is a perfect spot for photos and peaceful nature appreciation.
Next, head to Uwamajo Village, a nearby traditional community surrounded by coconut palms and farms. Be welcomed by locals and enjoy a home-cooked Swahili meal made with fresh, local ingredients. The menu may include coconut rice or pilau (spiced rice), fish or chicken curry with coconut sauce, vegetable dishes and local fruits, and fresh tropical juice or coconut water.
After lunch, take a guided village walk to experience authentic Zanzibari rural life. Visit local farms to see how people grow cassava, bananas, and spices. Learn about coconut oil production and handicrafts. Interact with villagers, explore traditional houses, and see daily life up close. Option to participate in cultural demonstrations, such as coconut climbing or weaving.
If time allows, stop by Paje Beach, one of Zanzibar’s most stunning white-sand beaches, located just 20–30 minutes from Uwamajo. Relax by the turquoise water, swim, or enjoy a fresh juice or cocktail at a beach café before heading back.
