Day 1: Arusha to Lake Natron
Depart from Arusha and travel through the Great Rift Valley, passing remote Maasai villages and dramatic volcanic landscapes on the way to Lake Natron, located beneath the sacred Ol Doinyo Lengai—known by the Maasai as the “Mountain of God.”
Settle into your accommodation and visit a nearby Maasai community with a local guide to learn about traditional lifestyles, livestock keeping, customs, and the community’s relationship with the surrounding land.
Day 2: Lake Natron and Ngare Sero Gorge
Begin the second day with an early guided walk along the shores of Lake Natron. Depending on the season and water conditions, observe flocks of lesser flamingos feeding in the shallow alkaline waters. Your guide will explain the lake’s unique ecosystem and why it is one of East Africa’s most important breeding areas for lesser flamingos.
Continue to the Ngare Sero Gorge for a guided hike to its beautiful waterfall. Walk through a rocky canyon, cross shallow streams, and enjoy the refreshing natural pools beneath the waterfall. Wear secure water-friendly shoes, as parts of the trail may be wet and slippery.
Day 3: Horseback Safari and Return to Arusha
After breakfast on the third day, leave Lake Natron and travel back toward Arusha. Complete the experience with a guided horseback safari through peaceful bushland and open countryside. Professional handlers will provide a safety briefing and select a suitable horse based on your riding ability, making the activity enjoyable for both beginners and experienced riders.
After the horseback experience, relax during your private transfer back to your accommodation in Arusha.
