Description
Learn about Chagga culture and history while visiting Marangu village. You will visit the Chagga caves and museum, a local waterfall, have a local lunch, and visit the Marangu gate of Kilimanjaro.
Visit the Chagga village of Marangu, the last village before ascending Kilimanjaro. The Chagga are the third largest tribe in Tanzania and call Kilimanjaro home. You will begin your experience by learning the local coffee process. Then after drinking your fresh cup of kahawa, you will trek to the Chagga Museum and learn how the Chagga used to live. You will then enter caves built by the Chagga nearly two hundred years ago to protect themselves from attacks by the Maasai. While in the village you will also meet a blacksmith who will teach you how the Chagga make iron tools using local machines. After learning about Chagga culture and history, you will stop by Ngangu hills for a view of Kilimanjaro. Then you will take a short hike to Ndoro Waterfalls. After the waterfalls, we will return to the village for a local Chagga lunch before heading to the Marangu gate of Kilimanjaro and learning the history of the mountain.
