Description

Enjoy a full-day Blue Safari in Zanzibar with sandbank relaxation, lagoon swimming, and guided snorkeling in crystal-clear waters. A perfect mix of adventure and relaxation on the Indian Ocean.
Begin your journey in a small Andean village located within the Sacred Valley region of Peru. This area is surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks and ancient agricultural terraces that climb the hillsides in carefully constructed layers.

Upon arrival, be welcomed by a local Quechua farming family who will introduce you to their community and explain the importance of agriculture in their culture. The Quechua people are descendants of the Inca civilization and continue to preserve many traditional customs, including their farming knowledge.

Start with a guided walk through ancient agricultural terraces built hundreds of years ago. These terraces were originally constructed by the Inca to create flat planting areas on steep mountain slopes while also controlling water flow and preventing soil erosion.

As you walk through the terraces, learn how these engineering techniques allowed the Inca civilization to cultivate crops in difficult mountain environments. Many of these terraces are still actively used by farmers today, demonstrating the lasting value of this ancient agricultural knowledge.

During the walk, observe different types of crops growing in the terraces depending on the season. Potatoes, corn, quinoa, and native Andean vegetables are among the most common crops grown in the region.

The guide also explains how altitude, temperature, and soil conditions influence which crops can grow successfully at different levels of the mountain landscape.

After exploring the terraces, join the farming family in the fields for the hands-on potato farming activity, which is one of the highlights of the experience.

Be introduced to traditional farming tools and techniques used by local farmers. Depending on the time of year, participate in planting potato seeds, harvesting mature potatoes, or sorting different varieties of the crop.

The farmers explain how potatoes are planted in carefully prepared soil rows and how the plants are protected from harsh mountain weather conditions. Learn that each potato variety has unique characteristics, including differences in color, size, taste, and cooking use.

Some potatoes grown in the Andes have vibrant purple, red, or deep yellow colors that reflect the incredible biodiversity of the region. Farmers often preserve these traditional varieties as part of their cultural heritage.

During the activity, learn about the agricultural calendar followed by Andean communities. Planting and harvesting seasons are often connected to natural signs such as rainfall patterns, moon phases, and mountain weather changes.

In addition to farming techniques, the hosts share stories about how agriculture is linked to Andean spiritual beliefs. Many farming families perform small ceremonies to honor Pachamama, or Mother Earth, expressing gratitude for the land that provides food and sustains life.

Following the farming activity, relax and enjoy a traditional Andean meal prepared by the host family using locally grown ingredients
