Description

Join the guided tour of Clementinum, get to the top of the Astronomical Tower and enjoy the view of the historical city center. Experience the authentic Baroque Library from the early 18th century.
The highlight of this fascinating guided tour of the Clementinum – one of the largest building complexes in Europe – is the view from its dominant feature, the Astronomical Tower. The tour also includes a glimpse into the Baroque Library, which has often been described as the most spectacular library in the world. It was completed in 1727 and houses a collection – still open today – of more than 27,000 volumes of what is predominantly theological literature in foreign languages. Beautiful frescoes on the theme of science and art adorn the hall, where several large, historically invaluable globes can be found. Another stop on the route is the Meridian Hall at the base of the tower. This hall holds the original astronomical instruments used to determine, among other things, high noon. The tour culminates in a view of the centre of Prague and the Castle from the 68 m high Astronomical Tower. The tower itself also accommodates an exhibition of historical measuring instruments.
