The Hollywood Sign is a world-famous landmark in Los Angeles, made of large white letters spelling "HOLLYWOOD." Originally an advertisement for a real estate development called "Hollywoodland," it was built in 1923 and has been a symbol of the movie industry since the "land" part was removed in 1949. The sign is 45 feet tall and located on Mount Lee in the Hollywood Hills.
