Description
Discover Montevideo in a different way by running as a group, accompanied by guides who know the city's history and secrets.
Running Tour MVD invites you to explore Montevideo on foot, passing by historic and iconic sites and listening to anecdotes and fascinating details about our city and our culture.
We will begin our tour from Plaza Independencia, the most important square in the country, providing information about the buildings and monuments located there (Artigas Monument, Mausoleum, Palacio Salvo, Palacio Estevez, Puerta de la Ciudadela, and Teatro Solís). We will then take Peatonal Sarandí to enter the beautiful Old Town, reaching Plaza Constitución with its fountain, the Metropolitan Church, the Cabildo, Club Uruguay, and the Andes 1972 Museum. We'll continue to Plaza Zabala, with its Taranco Palace, and then to the Port Market. This first section is covered walking or at a slow jog due to the high number of pedestrians in the area. From the Port Market, we will run two sections at a moderate pace, chatting as we go, to the Artigas Train Station and the Legislative Palace, both approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) long. In front of this majestic Palace, we will take photos, discuss its construction and its unique history, and take a break to hydrate and rest. From there, we will reach the city's main avenue (Avenida 18 de Julio) via Calle Fernández Crespo, which has a slight climb, but we will take it at a leisurely pace. The final 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) run along our main avenue, passing by the Faculty of Law, the National Library, Tristán Narvaja Street, Plaza de los Treinta y Tres, the Municipal Palace, the Carlos Gardel monument, Plaza Cagancha (with its historic Column of Peace), and Plaza Fabini, with its famous Entrevero monument.
The entire tour lasts approximately 2.5 hours and includes a few minutes of warm-up, mobility, and running technique exercises at the beginning, as well as stretching exercises at the end.
