Description
Celebrate the women of Tucson who not only survived in this harsh western desert town, they thrived here. They were tough, resilient, smart, bold, passionate, and their stories deserve to be heard.
Join a 2-hour, 2-mile journey through the heart of Tucson and Barrio Viejo. Begin and end at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall, and receive a sanitized listening device so you can hear every word on our tour. Parasols and water bottles provided as needed.
You'll hear stories of the women who bucked every trend and lived life on their own terms: Linda Ronstadt, Lily Fremont, Eva Blanchard/Annie Sullivan Wiley, Therese Ferrin, Madeleine Berger, the Sisters of St Joseph, Cele Peterson, Larcena Pennington, and Pearl Hart.
Sightseeing: Sosa-Carrillo-Fremont House, Teatro Carmen, Temple of Music and Art, St. Augustin Cathederal, Cele Peterson's fashion shop, Pima Coutny Historic Courthouse, and the Garces Footbridge.
Learn about the global superstar who left Tucson with only a Martin guitar and $30 in her pocket. She went on to sell 100 million albums, win 11 Grammys, and become the "Queen of Country Rock" without ever forgetting her roots.
Discover the Queen of the Demimonde who, after 18 years in the red-light district, transitioned seamlessly into high society. She lived the next 52 years of her life as a devout Catholic and a generous philanthropist, never apologizing for her past.
Hear about the relentless survivors who, in order to bring education to Tucson, completed a grueling 3,000-mile journey that included a 400-mile trek through the desert on foot. After opening Tucson's first school, they went on to establish the first hospital in Arizona.
Listen to the outrageous story of The Bandit Queen who famously testified, "I shall not be tried under a law in which my sex had no voice in making."
