Begin the tour with a pickup from your accommodation in Rome by an air-conditioned comfortable vehicle and professional English-speaking driver. Start your 1.5-hour drive to Montecassino, observing the landscape as you go.
Upon your arrival, meet your tour guide and begin a tour of the Abbey of Montecassino, one of the most well-known Abbeys in the world (admission not included). Continue to the Polish War Cemetery.
Construction of Polish War Cemetery began in 1944, after the end of hostilities, and was finished in 1946. However, the official consecration took place on 1 September 1945 during a multi-faith celebration conducted according to the rites of the Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, and Jewish faiths, attended by representatives of the Polish Government-in-Exile and Allied Command.
Visit the Cassino Memorial, the Commonwealth War Cemetery for various military groups and nationalities who are held in high esteem by the local people. Learn about New Zealand, the US, the UK, France, and so many others who helped to free Italy from the grip of the Third Reich.
Move on to the village of Sant'Angelo, the battlefield of the Rapido River, the Freedom Bell near that site. Head to your last stop, the village of San Pietro that was destroyed in late 1943 by fighting between the advancing U.S. forces seeking to break the Winter Line and the defending German troops.
In San Pietro, see the Parco Della Memoria Storica (History Memorial Park) that contains the ruins of the village, still laying as they were at the end of the war. Enjoy free time for a light lunch before returning to Rome.
