After pickup from your accommodation in Cairns, the Northern Beaches or Port Douglas, travel north along the Captain Cook Highway, one of the most scenic coastal drives in the world. At Mossman Gorge, join an extended guided walk and learn about the rich traditions of the Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal people. Cross the Daintree River on the cable ferry, then cruise the river for an hour with a local naturalist guide, looking for crocodiles and birdlife. Enjoy lunch at the Daintree Tea House, take in the views from Alexandra Lookout towards the Great Barrier Reef and Snapper Island, and stretch your legs at Thornton Beach. End the day at Cape Tribulation, where the World Heritage rainforest meets the reef, with time for a beach walk and Kulki Lookout before your overnight stay.

On day 2, switch to 4WD for the rugged Bloomfield Track. Stop at Bloomfield Falls and Cedar Bay National Park, then enjoy lunch at the legendary Lion's Den Hotel, a classic Aussie pub on the Annan River where you can sign the famous walls. Arrive in historic Cooktown in the late afternoon for a first look around before dinner.

On the final day, take in the views from Grassy Hill Lookout and visit the James Cook Museum to hear the story of Captain Cook's seven-week stay on the Endeavour River, the first meaningful contact between Europeans and Indigenous Australians, and the Palmer River gold rush. Head off the bitumen to Archer Point Lighthouse, pass the mysterious Black Mountains and stop for lunch at the Palmer River Roadhouse. Travel through savannah country via Mount Carbine and Mount Molloy to Bob's Lookout for afternoon tea, then use an exclusive permit to 4WD into the Clohesy River World Heritage rainforest boardwalk to see a giant strangler fig. Finish with views over Cairns and the Coral Sea as you descend the Kuranda Range, arriving back at your accommodation in the early evening.
