Today, we will visit the Historic Monumental Complex of Panama Viejo to learn about its fascinating history, which began with its founding in 1519. The city rose to prominence as a transit route between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, as well as a hub for expeditions to North, Central, and South America, until its decline following an attack by the famous English privateer Henry Morgan. We will tour the museum and walk among its open-air monuments. For those who are up for the challenge, there is the option of climbing the 15-meter-high iconic Cathedral Tower, which in its time served as a lookout point and from which we can now enjoy a breathtaking view of the modern city. Next, we will take a leap into the present and future by touring the Modern City and the Cinta Costera (Coastal Beltway), before heading into the Casco Antiguo (Old Town), a colonial city dating back to 1673 that remains more vibrant and thriving than ever. Beautiful civic monuments and churches featuring colonial, Baroque, and Neoclassical architecture blend with enthusiastic local passersby and visitors enjoying open-air restaurants, bars, hotels, craft shops, and live music (in the evenings), all surrounded by the waters of the Pacific. Continuing our tour, we will head to the Amador Causeway Islands, a landfill that connects four islands in Panama Bay and gives us the feeling of being out at sea. The all-in-one view will allow you to see the modern city, Casco Antiguo, and the Bridge of the Americas from a single vantage point at the same time. Take some free time to enjoy the sea breeze and have a refreshing drink at one of the many restaurants. At the end of the tour, you will have the option of being dropped off at your hotel or at a shopping center in the city, from where you can make your own way back to your hotel.
