On November 8th, La Paz comes alive with one of its most fascinating and spiritual traditions — The Day of the Ñatitas, a celebration that honors skulls believed to protect and guide their keepers. You’ll experience this day with deep respect and insight, discovering the beauty behind what many might first find unusual.

We’ll begin our journey at the Teleférico Central Station, where you’ll glide above the city on the red line and enjoy breathtaking views of La Paz’s chaotic yet beautiful life. During the ride, your guide will introduce you to the meaning of the Ñatitas and how this unique tradition blends pre-Columbian beliefs with Catholic rituals — a reflection of Bolivia’s cultural duality.

Once we arrive near the Cementerio General, we’ll stop by a local market to buy flowers, coca leaves, and cigarettes — small gifts that locals offer to their beloved skulls. Your guide will explain the symbolism of each: flowers to bring beauty, coca to energize the spirit, and cigarettes to “share life” with the soul.

As we enter the Cementerio General, you’ll first explore the murals — vibrant, emotional artworks that represent the cycle of life, death, and memory. Here, you’ll learn how Bolivians celebrate death not with fear, but with love and color.

Then, we’ll walk towards the area of the Ñatitas, where families gather with devotion, decorating their skulls with hats, sunglasses, and flowers.
