Arrive at a local home or a cultural setup designed for the ceremony. Learn about the history of coffee in Ethiopia and its cultural significance, from the legend of Kaldi to its role in social gatherings.

Get a brief introduction to the tools and ingredients used in the ceremony, including the jebena (traditional coffee pot), green coffee beans, and incense. Watch as fresh, green coffee beans are carefully roasted over an open flame. The aroma fills the room, a crucial part of the ceremony’s sensory experience.

Participate by grinding the roasted beans using a traditional mukecha (mortar and pestle). Witness the brewing process in the jebena as water and ground coffee combine over a charcoal stove.
