Day 1: Accra – Gateway to Ghana

Then, explore Jamestown, the old colonial quarter with its lighthouse, murals, and fishing harbor. Arrive in Kumasi late morning and head straight to the Manhyia Palace Museum, the official residence of Ashanti kings until the 1970s. Today it’s a museum filled with thrones, royal regalia, photographs, and stories of Ashanti power and resistance against the British.

In the afternoon, visit Kejetia Market, known as West Africa’s largest open-air market, with over 10,000 stalls. Wander through fabrics, beads, herbs, and gold jewelry. Then, explore the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, a smaller museum with fascinating Ashanti artifacts, including royal furniture and ceremonial items.

In the evening, enjoy dinner at a Kumasi local restaurant and try Ashanti food specialties like fufu with light soup or omo tuo. Stroll through the “Garden City” in the cooler evening breeze. Overnight in Kumasi.

Day 3: Cape Coast – Castles & Rainforest Adventure

From the royal traditions of Kumasi, head to the coast for history and nature. Depart Kumasi early and arrive at Cape Coast Castle by late morning. Take a guided tour of the castle & dungeons, where enslaved Africans were held before being shipped across the Atlantic. The haunting atmosphere is balanced with exhibits in the museum that explain the transatlantic slave trade and its impact.

If time allows, take a short drive to Elmina Castle, the oldest European building in Sub-Saharan Africa, built by the Portuguese in 1482.

In the afternoon, head inland to Kakum National Park to walk the famous canopy walkway, suspended 30 meters above the forest floor. From up there, see monkeys, birds, and endless rainforest stretching into the horizon.
