Kunsthalle Bremen: Tradition and Modernity The Kunstverein in Bremen was founded in 1823. Over 170 years ago, not far from Bremen's market square, it built the Kunsthalle Bremen, the first independent building for a civic art collection in Germany. Today, the Kunsthalle is still privately owned by the Kunstverein in Bremen and is one of the most important and beautiful museums in Europe. The diverse collection spans seven centuries of art. From Dürer to Monet and Picasso to Turrell – 700 years of art history in one place.

Over the course of the 200-year history of the Kunstverein and the Kunsthalle, a collection of outstanding paintings and sculptures has been assembled, as well as one of the largest and most important collections of copperplate engravings in Germany: a collection that has been shaped by the civic character of the Kunstverein and Bremen's tradition of trade.

Special exhibition Kirchner Woodcuts. Benjamin Badock, Gabriela Jolowicz, and Thomas Kilpper (November 9, 2024 – March 9, 2025)

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner was and remains the star of German Expressionism. He revolutionized woodcut printing and left behind a body of work that continues to inspire artists to this day. In this exhibition, works by contemporary artists Gabriela Jolowicz, Thomas Kilpper, and Benjamin Badock engage with Kirchner's prints.
