From Christchurch: Alpaca Farm Tour with Feeding and Guide

Silverstream Alpaca Stud has been entertaining visitors for twenty years and is one of those must do attractions that is located on the northern fringe of the city of Christchurch - just 20 minutes drive from the CBD.
The alpaca has to be one of the most seductive and alluring animals in the world with its beautiful long eyelashes, inquisitive nature and incredible fibre.

On arrival report to reception and after a warm welcome, visitors will be seated and provided with a fascinating account of the life of the alpaca farmer and what the alpaca has done to transform the lives of the Johnson family including live animal exports to Europe and Asia.

After a brief safety talk, visitors are brought face to face with these magnificent animals. Feed, touch and photograph the animals, hold babies (in season- November to April) and thoroughly enjoy the interaction between animal and visitor. The owner will provide an entertaining and informative commentary and answer any questions.

Leaving the alpacas, you will be taken to the fibre shed to touch and feel show winning fleeces. Alpaca fibre once touched is never forgotten - our visitors are constantly surprised at the handle and lustre of this magnificent fibre.
The tour concludes with a visit to our shop and trophy room. A wide variety of alpaca product is available for purchase. Eftpos and Apple Pay available.
There is time to wander around the expansive lawns and gardens or to spend more time with the alpaca.

Silverstream especially welcomes airline staff and families. There is bus transport from the city centre to Kaiapoi (20 kms) and it is just a short walk to the farm.
Tours operate daily except Christmas Day at 10am, 2pm and 4pm.
The tour duration is one and a half hours long but visitors are welcome to stay longer.
