Experience 2 days and 1 night in the Amazon around Puerto Maldonado, combining Tambopata River navigation, rainforest walks, a jungle lodge stay, and an early-morning visit to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick. Throughout the journey, your guide helps you understand the rainforest, wildlife, plants, and landscapes.

Day 1 – Puerto Maldonado to the rainforest

Your experience begins with a welcome at Puerto Maldonado Airport or bus terminal. Our team will assist you with registration before continuing toward the rainforest. If you have large luggage, we recommend leaving it at the office and taking only what you need for your stay.

Travel approximately 2 hours by road to the banks of the Tambopata River. Your guide will introduce you to the changing landscape as you leave the city and approach the rainforest.

From the riverbank, board a boat to the lodge. During the navigation, observe the forest along the river and look for birds and other wildlife while learning about the importance of the Tambopata River to the region.

Upon arrival, receive a welcome, settle into your room, and enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, explore the rainforest on an introductory walk. Your guide will help you identify plants, insects, animal tracks, forest sounds, and signs of wildlife while explaining how the Amazon ecosystem works. You may encounter amphibians, reptiles, mammals, insects, and birds in their natural habitat. Sightings depend on natural conditions.

Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2 – Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick

Wake up around 4:30 AM for an approximately 1.5-hour boat journey to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick. During the navigation, your guide will help you observe the riverbanks and identify possible wildlife.

At the clay lick, settle into the observation area and wait for the birds to arrive. Your guide will explain their behavior, why they visit the clay wall, and the role of clay in their diet. You may observe red, green, blue, and yellow macaws, along with other parrot species. Bird activity depends on natural conditions.

Return by boat to the lodge for lunch, then explore the botanical garden with your guide and learn about native fruit, medicinal, and timber species.

Finally, travel by boat and road back to Puerto Maldonado, where you will be transferred to the airport or bus terminal according to your departure schedule.

The Tambopata National Reserve entrance fee of USD 20 per person, bar consumption, and alcoholic beverages are not included. Bring insect repellent, sunscreen, a flashlight, binoculars, comfortable walking shoes, and long-sleeved clothing.
