Take a hike or ride a bike through Rau Forest, a sanctuary for black and white colobus monkeys and blue monkeys.
This reserve is a closed canopy forest located on the outskirts of Moshi. It is home to black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, dik-diks, hornbills, spoonbills, and chameleons. The trail is fairly flat and is easy to navigate for people of all ages and athletic levels. Along the trail you will see the Milk Spring Water, the Rau River, a rice plantation, the oldest Mvule tree in East Africa, the Oxystigma msoo tree, and enjoy a lunch in a canopy covered picnic area.
The tour takes 8 hours including ride to and from Moshi, pickup available from Arusha as well. This is also the ideal trail to take a bike ride. The bike tour is 15.5 miles (25 km) and takes about 6 hours, not including transport. In addition to the forest you will see rice fields, a sugar cane plantation, and the Moshi railway station on the bike tour.
