Famous for its large hippo and flamingo populations and lions that live in trees, Lake Manyara is a shallow alkaline lake formed in the Rift Valley. The lake has a maximum depth of 3 meters (10 feet) in the height of the rainy seasons and can completely dry up in severe dry seasons. It is fed by underground springs and several streams that drain the surrounding Ngorongoro Highlands. Lake Manyara is a feeding paradise and breeding ground for birds like the Lesser and Greater Flamingo, the great white pelican, the pink-backed pelican, the yellow-billed Stork, the Marabou stork, the grey heron, the palm-nut vulture, the Ayre's hawk eagle, and many other species of waterfowl. It is also home to over 180 species of butterflies. Herbivores in the park include hippos, wildebeests, zebras, waterbucks, gazelles, impalas, giraffes, Cape buffalos, baboons, warthogs, and elephants. Carnivores include lions, leopards, African wild cats, spotted hyenas, black-backed jackals, bat-eared foxes, servals, honey badgers, civets, and mongoose. Our experienced guides will do their best to show you all that Lake Manyara has to offer.

On this trip you will spend two days exploring this amazing park. You will spend the night in neighboring Karatu. You will have the option to either camp in tents or stay in a lodge.

On your first day, you will go for a canoe ride on the the lake before your game drive. On the second day you will walk through the canopy on a Treetop Walkway before the game drive.
