The Doge's Palace, the former seat of the Doge and the government, is one of the most extraordinary examples of Venetian Gothic architecture. Its elegant façades, facing the square and the lagoon, conceal solemn rooms, richly decorated by artists such as Tintoretto, Veronese and Titian. This is where justice was administered, politics were decided and ambassadors were welcomed. The famous Bridge of Sighs led to the prisons, testifying to the dual face of power: splendour and severity.

Opposite, in the Procuratie Nuove, is the Correr Museum, created thanks to a generous donation by the scholar Teodoro Correr. Its rooms recount the life, culture and art of the city through paintings, maps, furnishings and precious objects. Here, visitors can admire works by masters such as Vittore Carpaccio and Antonio Canova, while discovering the neoclassical rooms and royal apartments that welcomed Napoleon and the Habsburgs.

Dominating the square is St. Mark's Basilica, an ancient ducal chapel and now a cathedral, built in the 11th century according to Byzantine models. With its Greek cross plan and soaring domes, its interior offers a dazzling display of golden mosaics depicting biblical episodes and the life of the patron saint. Outside, the façade, rich in polychrome marble and statues, introduces visitors to the most precious treasure: the Pala d'Oro, a masterpiece of medieval goldsmithing, while the basilica's museum houses the original Horses of St. Mark, ancient symbols of glory and power.
