Explore the hidden gems of southern Armenia on a 3-day private tour from Yerevan. Visit Meghri, Tatev Monastery, Shaki Waterfall, and more with a professional guide.
Set off in a comfortable vehicle on a 3-day journey to Meghri, Armenia’s hidden subtropical gem near the Iranian border. Although it remains unknown to many travelers, the region is famous for its unique climate, ancient architecture, and rich history.

Here, locals grow persimmons, figs, pomegranates, olives, kiwis, and even bananas, thanks to the warm southern climate. Historically, Meghri stood at the crossroads of three empires — Ottoman, Persian, and Russian — shaping its distinctive culture and architectural style.

Prepare for spectacular serpentines, green valleys, dramatic gorges, and high mountain plateaus, as well as some of Armenia’s top attractions.

Day 1 — Shaki Waterfall, Zorats Karer, Vorotnavank, Arrival in Meghri

Depart from Yerevan and head toward the picturesque Shaki Waterfall — a natural stone wall draped with powerful streams of water. Nearby awaits Zorats Karer, also known as the Armenian Stonehenge, one of the world’s oldest megalithic sites, with mysterious stones scattered across a vast field.

Continue to Vorotnavank Monastery, where stunning views open over the Vorotan Gorge. By evening, after passing several breathtaking mountain passes, arrive in Meghri, where you will spend the night.

Day 2 — Exploring Meghri and the Iranian Border

Spend the second day discovering Meghri and its surroundings — a place known for dramatic landscapes, Persian-influenced architecture, and a vibrant history.

Learn about the Russo-Persian War of 1804–1813, when Meghri was liberated from Persian control.

Visit:
• the beautifully restored St. Sargis Church (17th century), decorated with unique frescoes blending Armenian and Persian styles
• the Holy Mother of God Church, where an antique piano is still preserved
• the iconic fortress tower, naturally protected by mountain slopes
• the winding streets of Old Meghri, where Persian influence is still visible

Then follow the Araks River along the Iranian border to the village of Shvanidzor, home to:
• preserved merchant and farmer houses (18th–19th centuries)
• one of the region’s famous pomegranate orchards
• a functioning Persian medieval aqueduct (qanat)

On this stretch, we’ll also drive along the so-called Trump TRIPP road, a route that has recently become a favorite topic of curiosity among visitors.

Day 3 — Tatev Monastery and Return to Yerevan

After breakfast, begin the return journey north. The highlight of the day is Tatev Monastery, an architectural masterpiece built atop a deep canyon. This is one of Armenia’s most impressive landmarks and a must-see for every traveler.

Arrive in Yerevan late in the evening.
