Power up from Sai Kung’s greenery to Lion Rock’s iconic ridge, with Kowloon and Kai Tak views snapping into frame. Tackle steep climbs, WWII pillboxes, and macaque country—big skyline payoff.
Lion Rock Playbook is a 4‑hour guided hike that blends steep climbs, sweeping views, wartime relics, and close‑but‑respectful wildlife encounters—delivered in a small group with crisp pacing and safety at the core.
Meet your guide at the 7‑Eleven in Marina Cove, Sai Kung. After a short briefing on route, safety, and weather, we warm up through bamboo and village paths before the gradient “lawyers up.” The first objective is Tung Shan’s overlook: a sustained staircase and rocky sections that get your calves talking and your camera out. As you gain height, Sai Kung’s green gives way to Kowloon East, Beacon Hill, Lion Rock, and the ghost runway of Kai Tak lining up across Victoria Harbor—skyline theater with every switchback.
From Tung Shan, the route turns ridge‑forward. We follow sections of Wilson Trail 4 and MacLehose Trail 5 toward Lion Rock Country Park. The views widen: Kowloon sprawls below, Sha Tin and Tai Wai open to the north, and Black‑eared Kites often ride thermals overhead. Along the way, we pass WWII pillboxes—stonework receipts from the Gin Drinkers Line. Your guide will pause for quick context and photo spots, but we keep a tidy rhythm: short breathers, steady momentum, high‑ROI miles.
The headline act is Lion Rock Head itself. A short scramble brings you onto the granite crown with panoramic views of Kowloon, Hong Kong Island, and the New Territories. We manage time here for photos and a snack break.
Expect macaque country near Kowloon Pass and Tai Po Road. They’re savvy locals—observe, don’t feed, keep food sealed, don’t make eye contact, and move on calmly if approached. We reinforce Leave No Trace: stay on established paths, pack out everything, respect heritage sites.
We wrap by descending through Lion Rock Country Park toward the urban edge and finish at Lion Rock Park Community Garden—an easy walk to Lok Fu MTR station for a quick return to the city. Your guide will point you to MTR exits and nearby bus options.
