Explore the Danakil Depression and Tigray Highlands on a 5-day tour. Trek to Erta Ale, visit Dallol's sulfur fields, and climb to the rock-hewn churches of Abune Yemata Guh and Maryam Korkor.
Begin your adventure in Semera, the gateway to the Danakil Depression, one of the hottest, lowest, and most geologically active places on Earth. Travel deep into Afar territory as you trek to the summit of Erta Ale, an active shield volcano known for its glowing lava lake.
Explore the surreal salt formations and rainbow-colored geothermal fields of Dallol, then meet the Afar and Tigrayan salt miners working on the vast Lake Asale. Witness camel caravans crossing the endless white salt flats.
Continue to the Tigray Highlands for a private cultural experience. Hike and climb to the iconic rock-hewn churches of Abune Yemata Guh (the “church in the sky”) and Maryam Korkor, known for incredible mountain views and ancient frescoes.
On the final day, visit Abreha Atsbeha, one of Tigray’s most impressive historical churches, before ending your journey in Mekele for your return flight to Addis Ababa.
