From Zell am See: Private Salzburg Old Town Day Trip

Begin your day with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Zell am See, Kaprun, Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Leogang, or Saalfelden. Travel in a private, air-conditioned car or minivan and enjoy a scenic drive along the Salzach Valley.

Stop at the Hohenwerfen Castle viewpoint for a photo opportunity of the 900-year-old fortress high above the Salzach Valley. Continue to Hellbrunn Palace and Park, where you can walk through the park to the famous Sound of Music gazebo. From April to early November, you can also visit the playful trick fountains (ticket not included).

Next, head to the city center and visit Mirabell Gardens. Admire the flower beds, Pegasus Fountain, and the Do-Re-Mi steps, and take in the view of Hohensalzburg Fortress. Then, enjoy a guided walk through Salzburg's Old Town with your guide. See Getreidegasse with its wrought-iron shop signs, Mozart's Birthplace, Salzburg Cathedral, and Residenzplatz. Learn about Mozart and the prince-archbishops as you explore the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town.

After your guided tour, enjoy 2 hours of free time in the Old Town. Have lunch in a traditional Austrian restaurant or coffee house, take an optional funicular to Hohensalzburg Fortress (ticket not included), or go shopping. Your guide will recommend the best places to visit.

From late November to the end of December, visit the famous Christkindlmarkt on Cathedral and Residenz squares, a perfect winter day away from the ski slopes. Because the trip is private, timing is flexible.
