Beschrijving
Hike deep into Medvednica’s forests to discover the 1909 ruins of Sanatorium Brestovac. See a striking landscape where nature reclaims concrete-perfect for hiking and photography lovers.
Begin your trek at the base of the mountain, where you immediately enter the dense, old-growth forests of Medvednica. Led by a licensed mountain guide, navigate authentic hiking trails that showcase the mountain's rugged terrain.
The climax of the hike is the sprawling, abandoned complex of the Brestovac Sanatorium. Built in 1909 deep within the forest as a state-of-the-art facility, it now stands as a striking monument to passing time, where colossal concrete structures are completely overtaken by trees and ivy.
While you explore the historic grounds from the outside, hear the genuine history, the tragic romance, and the wartime secrets that defined this isolated mountain community.
Continue your loop through peaceful, uncrowded forest trails back to the starting point, or, if you are up for it, continue to the top of Medvednica mountain, Sljeme.
