Discover Slovenia's most beautiful winter valley. Ride the cable car to a 1,535m alpine panorama, walk to frozen Savica Falls, lunch above the clouds, and end at Lake Jasna as it lights up at sunset.
A full day inside Slovenia's most beautiful winter landscape - from lake level to alpine plateaus, no driving stress, no planning required.

Most visitors to Slovenia see Bled and leave. This tour shows you what Bled itself is looking at: the Julian Alps, the frozen valleys, the alpine villages, and the panoramas you can only reach in winter with local knowledge.

How the day unfolds

We pick you up at the pickup point/your accommodation in Ljubljana or Bled and make a short photo stop at Lake Bled - the classic postcard shot before we head into the mountains.

From there, we drive into Triglav National Park to Ribčev Laz, on the shore of Lake Bohinj. The largest natural lake in Slovenia is a completely different creature in winter: quiet, glass-still, framed by snowy peaks. A short walk to stretch, take photos, and feel the silence.

We continue to Ukanc at the western end of the lake, where a 30-minute forest hike leads to Savica Waterfall, a dramatic 78-metre cascade that becomes a wall of ice and rushing water in winter. After the walk back, we take the cable car up to Vogel.

Vogel is Slovenia's most beloved ski resort, a retro alpine world that sits entirely inside Triglav National Park, with 1970s wooden chalets, panoramic terraces, and mountain huts serving traditional food since the resort opened.

At 1,535m, you're above the clouds on most winter days, with the entire Julian Alps stretched out around you. Lunch is at one of the mountain huts (your choice, paid on the day): hot soup, štruklji, sausage with sauerkraut, apple strudel with warm vanilla sauce, the food that keeps Slovenian skiers going.

After lunch, we descend back to the van and continue over the Pokljuka plateau, a high karst plateau covered in spruce forest and dotted with mountain pastures, home to Slovenia's national biathlon centre and the training ground for our Olympic athletes. A short visit to the biathlon centre gives you a taste of the sport that defines Slovenian winter culture.

We drop down to Zelenci nature reserve, where crystal-clear springs feed the Sava Dolinka river. The emerald-green water framed by snow is one of Slovenia's most photographed winter scenes.

From here, a short drive brings us to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia's northernmost alpine village, and to Lake Jasna, two small connected lakes ringed by the highest peaks of the Julian Alps. A walk around Jasna at sunset, with the peaks turning pink in alpenglow, is the moment guests remember most.

In December, we finish at the Kranjska Gora Christmas market; mulled wine, small wooden stalls, alpine lights, live music. A perfect close to a winter day in the mountains.
