Descrição
Discover the scenic Debed River Canyon in northern Armenia on a day trip from Tbilisi or Yerevan. Explore the medieval Akhtala Monastery, visit Haghpat Monastery, and see a MiG-21 jet fighter.
Begin your journey with a visit to the Akhtala Monastery Complex, perched dramatically on a high cliff surrounded by a deep gorge. Unlike most Armenian churches, Akhtala is famous for its remarkably preserved 13th-century Byzantine-Armenian frescoes covering the interior walls of the main Holy Mother of God Church.
Next, travel to Haghpat Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This outstanding monument of medieval Armenian architecture served for centuries as a major religious, scientific, and cultural center. See its unique bell tower, ancient scriptorium (library), and intricately carved khachkars (cross-stones).
Afterward, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant featuring traditional Armenian cuisine.
The tour concludes with a visit to the Mikoyan Brothers Museum in the village of Sanahin. Learn about two prominent 20th-century figures: Anastas Mikoyan (a high-ranking Soviet statesman) and Artem Mikoyan (the brilliant aircraft designer and co-creator of the MiG fighter jets). The main highlight of the museum is a real MiG-21 jet fighter displayed outdoors.
