Descrição

Discover Cyprus in one day: From Protaras & Ayia Napa beaches to Larnaca’s charm and Nicosia’s historic old town. A perfect mix of sea, culture & history.
Start our tour with a visit to the last divided capital of the Eu – Nicosia. The island of Cyprus, especially the capital, has a rich tapestry of history that imprints the town to this day. To be more precise, as the bus will head into the old part of the city, we will pass by the 16th century Venetian Walls that fortified and protected the city when Cyprus was a part of the ‘Sea Republic of Venice’. Then, we will drive by the Famagusta Gate, which was one of the 3 in total gates of the Venetian Walls and soon after we will see the remains of an Ottoman Aqueduct that was constructed in the 17th – 18th Century when Cyprus was under the Ottoman reign.

Soon after, the bus will park at the Eleftheria Monument, a monument dedicated to the Liberating Cause, and therefore the walking tour begins. From the Eleftheria Monument we will head down the road to pass by the Archepiscopal Palace, which is the residence of the Archbishop of Cyprus. Next to the palace, the 16th Century Cathedral of St. John is located that holds extraordinary 18th century frescoes in it. Then we will pass by the estate of Hadjiyiorgakis Kornesios, Hamam Omeriye, and Omeriye Mosque, a place that used to be a 12th Century Catholic Monastery, now in use as a mosque.

As we stroll around the narrow streets of old Nicosia, we will pass through Laiki Yitonia, a recently restored 19th quarter of the city with Taverns and Craft shops. Afterwards we will have the opportunity to see the Ledra Checkpoint, which is one of the 9 checkpoints on the island in total, that divide the Island of Cyprus into two parts, the Republic of Cyprus with the self-proclaimed state occupied by the Turkish Forces from 1974 to this day. Free time at Ledra Street will be given.

Continue our tour with a visit of Saint Lazarus Church. Saint Lazarus is the patron saint of Larnaca. Kition became his second home after his resurrection by Christ, and he lived here for another 30 years. He was ordained Bishop of Kition by Saints Barnabas and Mark. In the 9th century a magnificent church was erected over his tomb by Emperor Leo VI. The church, one of the finest examples of Byzantine architecture in Cyprus was faithfully restored in the 17th century, and the iconostasis is an excellent example of baroque woodcarving. Free time will be offer for a coffee to the famous “Finikoudes” pomerade before departing.
