Descrição
Discover the beauty of Khogno Khan Mountain on a 3-day tour from Ulaanbaatar. Stay in a traditional yurt, visit ancient monasteries, and enjoy a camel ride through the Khogno Tarna protected area.
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar to Khogno Khan Mountain
Meet your guide at the National Museum of Mongolian History in Ulaanbaatar and drive to Khogno Khan Mountain. Pass through a grandiose landscape that mixes high mountains with grassland. On the way, see the traditional gers of the herders who inhabit this sparse land and interesting ger cafes.
Arrive at Khogno Khan Mountain, situated in the center of Mongolia at 1,967 meters above sea level. Enjoy panoramic vistas that give you an unforgettable impression of Mongolia’s size. In the afternoon, hike Mount Khogno Khan or visit the ancient and picturesque Ovgon Monastery.
Founded in the 17th century as a monastery of the Gelug (Yellow Hat) school of Buddhism, it was destroyed by the Communists around 1937, leaving only ruins. Since 1990, a local Mongolian family has restored some of the smaller temples.
Spend the night in a nomadic family's yurt. Meet the family and ask them about their way of life. Observe or participate in the milking of cows or camels and see how dairy products are prepared.
Day 2: Khar Khorin Village and Erdene Zuu Monastery
Early in the morning, drive to Khar Khorin village to visit the ancient monastery Erdene Zuu, the biggest in Mongolia. It is surrounded by walls with 108 stupas and has 3 main temples. Erdene Zuu was built in 1586 by Abtai Sain Khan. It was constructed on top of the burial tombs of the ancient capital city of Chinggis Khaan’s Empire.
After a picnic by the Orkhon River, visit the Kharkhorin Ethnographic Museum. This museum is a major cultural attraction in Kharkhorin, the former capital of the Mongol Empire. It houses a rich collection of archaeological artifacts from the ancient city of Kharkhorin, which was founded by Genghis Khan and reached its peak under his successors. The museum offers a fascinating insight into Mongol imperial history and Silk Road culture.
In the evening, return to the nomadic family's home, located in the Khogno Khaan National Park, to spend the night.
Day 3: Camel Ride and Return to Ulaanbaatar
After breakfast, set off on a camel ride. The Khogno Tarna protected area offers magnificent scenery, featuring stunning sand dunes, vast plains, towering mountains, and a picturesque lake that serves as a summer habitat for numerous waterfowl. Ride your camels to this dune-fringed lake before returning to the herder family's home. The ride will last approximately two to three hours.
After lunch, drive to Ulaanbaatar and get dropped off at your hotel.
