Descrição
Full-day tour from Queenstown via Kawarau Gorge, Lake Pukaki, and Aoraki Mt Cook with lunch included. Travel with expert local guides on this small group tour.
New Zealand's highest peak deserves more than a drive-past.
This full-day small-group tour from Queenstown travels north via Kawarau Gorge, , before continuing through the Mackenzie District to Lake Pukaki and Aoraki Mt Cook National Park. Your guide leads the day with local knowledge, te reo Māori place names, and the stories that make the landscape make sense.
At 3724 metres, Aoraki is New Zealand's highest peak and a sacred ancestor to Ngā Tahu iwi. For local Māori, he is not just a mountain. His story speaks to the dramatic formation of Kā Tiritiri o te Moana (the Southern Alps) and is one of the South Island's most important Māori legends. You will hear it on the road.
The national park was established in 1953. Approximately 40% is covered by glaciers. Nineteen mountains within the park exceed 3000 metres. You have two to two and a half hours to explore. Walk the Tasman Glacier Viewpoint Track through the old terminal moraines of Haupapa, New Zealand's longest glacier at approximately 23 kilometres, for views of the glacier, Tasman Lake, and the surrounding river. Or head into Mt Cook Village to visit the Visitor Centre. Scenic flights and Heli Hike experiences are available to book on the day via your guide, sold separately.
On the return journey, the day keeps delivering. The Ōmārama Clay Cliffs, ancient glacial formations that rise into craggy pinnacles, offer one of the best photo stops in the Mackenzie. Depending on time, you stop at High Country Salmon to feed the fish and buy some of the freshest salmon in New Zealand. The Lindis Pass lookout reveals tussocked valleys and open sky. The Cardrona Hotel, established in 1863 for Otago's Gold Rush, is a final stop before the Crown Range delivers a panoramic lookout over Queenstown and the Remarkables from the highest main road in Aotearoa.
Lunch is included. Your guide collects it at the Wānaka stop. WiFi and USB charging on board. Group capped at 16. Carbon neutral within the national park.
Please note from November 1, 2026 Kawarau Gorge will be replaced with a stop in at Wanaka.
